Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that Nathan Kottkamp has joined the firm’s Health Care Section, one of the largest health care practices in Virginia. Williams Mullen’s health care practice represents hospitals, hospital systems, academic medical centers, long-term care providers, payors, physician groups and a broad range of others in the industry. He will be based in the firm’s Richmond office.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Nathan to our health care team,” said Jamie Baskerville Martin, chair of Williams Mullen’s Health Care Section. “Nathan’s breadth and depth of experience for health care providers in complicated regulatory matters – including HIPAA, Certificate of Public Need (COPN), the Emergency Medical Treatment & Active Labor Act (EMTALA), the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark Law, and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act – as well as in state data breach laws will complement our existing team and enable us to continue to provide comprehensive and responsive representation to our health care clients.”
Nathan is a nationally recognized authority on HIPAA. He has earned the CIPP/US designation as a Certified Information Privacy Professional from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Nathan also has extensive experience representing institutions of higher education. His higher education experience includes various accreditation and licensure matters, educational affiliation agreements, student health and campus safety issues, and the interplay of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) with HIPAA.
Nathan is actively engaged in addressing complex public health issues. He is the founder and chair of National Healthcare Decisions Day, which highlights the importance of advance care planning. He is also a member of the Advance Directives Task Force Committee of the Supreme Court of Virginia Commission on Mental Health Law Reform.
Nathan earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he also earned his Master of Arts degree in bioethics. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from William & Mary.
