On June 22, 2017, U.S. Senators Mark Warner (D-VA), John Hoeven (R-ND), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Dean Heller (R-NV) introduced legislation "designed to advance the development of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and build on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) efforts to safely integrate them into the National Airspace System." The legislation would provide Congressional authority for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to "continue the registration and marking of small UAS and promote their safe and responsible use."
Williams Mullen attorney Kevin Pomfret, who also serves as executive director of the Unmanned Systems Association of Virginia, was quoted in the press release:
