Brooks Hock's practice involves the counseling of clients in all aspects of business, finance and development.  He has extensive experience in the acquisition and disposition of  businesses, as well as the development of commercial real estate.  Mr. Hock has regularly represented regional companies in connection with all aspects involving the growth of their businesses.

Mr. Hock also represents clients engaging in exchanges of like-kind property under Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code.  He has developed of network of exchange facilitators and brokerage contacts to assist in the successful acquisition of replacement properties.

Mr. Hock has represented a wide variety of businesses, restaurants, franchisors and franchisees, gasoline refiners, jobbers and dealers.

Mr. Hock graduated from the University of Virginia in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce and a concentration in finance. He graduated, cum laude, from Washington & Lee University School of Law in 1983 after having worked from 1978 to 1980 at Bank of Virginia, now a part of Wells Fargo.

Mr. Hock is a member of the Virginia State Bar, and the Richmond, Virginia, and American bar associations. He served on the executive committee of the Real Estate Section of the Richmond Bar Association. Mr. Hock has been named to Virginia Business magazine’s list of the “Legal Elite” (2012-2015). He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America®  (2007-present) and Virginia Super Lawyers magazine (2006-2009, 2011-2021).  In addition, Martindale-Hubbell has rated Mr. Hock an AV attorney, its highest rating available. Mr. Hock is past president of the board of directors of CARITAS, a provider of homeless services in the Central Virginia Area.
